Welcome

At the Carlton Academy we offer a supportive and successful Sixth Form for students from schools in the local area. We care about students’ academic and personal development and are committed to providing a friendly and supportive environment where each student may achieve their potential.

We have developed strong links with universities including The University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and the universities of Birmingham and Sheffield. These links are exceptionally valuable to our students as they benefit from mentoring, interview guidance, subject-specific workshops, financial support in the form of bursaries and unconditional offers for undergraduate study.

Our close working relationships with universities see our students secure places on competitive courses such as law and medicine at Russell Group universities.

Our current Ofsted rating of Good illustrates the bespoke support that we provide for all students. Inspectors commented that: “students talk positively about the broad range of subjects they can choose to study. They know leaders do everything possible to ensure that they receive a programme of study which is right for them. ”

We strive to ensure that we support both the academic and personal development of our students here at the Carlton Academy. We have great facilities for private study; including dedicated Sixth Form computers, our study centre and silent study provision. We also have a Pastoral Support Team for our students to access, as we are fully aware that many will need additional support alongside their studies.

We also recognise that our Sixth Formers have a lot to contribute to the wider school community; the pastoral system is organised into Houses and our Sixth Formers act as House Representatives and mentors to younger students, supporting their academic and personal development. This is a rewarding experience, which provides them with something extra for their CV and university application. Lower school students also gain in confidence and often we find their academic outcomes improve.
