Improvement Priorities
We constantly evaluate what we do and identify ways in which we can improve further. Our core purpose is raising academic achievement and everything we do is directly linked to this.
Each year, we identify our specific focus areas and develop a detailed school improvement plan which outlines exactly what we want to achieve and how we will go about making it happen. This is not a full list of everything we do but highlights the key priorities. As part of this work, we produce a summary which you can view below.
At the end of each review cycle, we also undertake an evaluation of our previous targets - these are colour coded for quick reference in terms of progress we believe has been made and are reported to Governors three times a year. Items in red are ones that we do not feel we have made enough progress on or have not yet started, amber is where progress is good and will be continued and green is where we feel that very good progress has been made and we are embedding these aspects into academy life.
School Development Plan 2024-25
Academic Achievement
We believe that all students should have the support and encouragement needed to achieve their very best academic performance. They should leave school with the formal qualifications they need to pursue their dreams. We believe that this is the biggest driver of social mobility in our society.
- Improve outcomes at KS4 with a focus on raising achievement.
- Improve outcomes at KS5 with a focus on raising achievement.
- Further develop the curriculum so that there is cross faculty coherence and EDI is embedded.
High Expectations
Our academies provide an environment in which high expectations are the norm. We encourage our students to be the best they can be. We are determined to support all students in achieving their true potential, whatever their background or starting points.
- Embed the trust values across all staff and students within the organisation.
- Fully embed behavioural norms across all stakeholders.

- Further develop the facilities and systems to create an even more positive learning and working environment for all.
Widening Students Experiences
Our academies all promote activities that build our students’ resilience, respect for staff and self-confidence. These include participation in sport, the performing arts, trips abroad, cultural experiences and character-building challenges. Our ‘Pledges’ system ensures that every student benefit from these important opportunities.

Outstanding Teaching
Excellent teaching is the bedrock of an effective academy. We invest in the professional development of our teachers as a priority. Best practice is shared through networks, coaching and conferences. Our training programmes cater for teachers from their first year through to executive leadership.
- Ensure we have effective assessment systems to maximise student progress.
- Develop student vocabulary and increase opportunities for verbal communication.
- Ensure that teaching meets the needs of all students to maximise progress.
Equality and Diversity
We build school communities based on equality and a sense of personal responsibility. Every student and member of staff at Redhill have an equal right to be successful. We have established the Redhill Equality Commission to ensure that all members of our community are treated equally, fairly and with respect.
- Review and further embed attendance strategies.
- To build a strong sense of belonging to The Carlton Academy and its vision.
- Fully embed aspiration for all strategy.
