ECO Days
The Carlton Academy is committed to providing all students many opportunities to both extend and enrich their learning experiences in school. As part of this, we run two ‘ECO’ days per year: ECO, standing for Enriching Curriculum Opportunities. These involve all students and staff across the Academy – to facilitate this, the normal timetable will be suspended for all students from years 7-13 on these days.
The ECO Days provide learning opportunities in the form of in-school educational activities, visits from external agencies and groups, events and trips. Each age-appropriate day is curriculum-focussed linking directly to aspects the wider curriculum including the promotion of fundamental British Values, Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural (SMSC) education, Careers Education and Guidance, and Enterprise. There are also many cross-curricular links to curriculum subjects studied in school.
The dates of the two ECO Days for the year 2023/2024 are:
- ECO Day 1 - 18 October 2023
- ECO Day 2 - 25 July 2024
Examples of days that took place in previous years include:
- Internatinal Day (Year 7)
- Natinal Enterprise Challenge (Year 9)
- Careers (Year 10)
- 999 Day (Year 7)
- Brain Day (Year 8)
- Demcracy and Citizenship including a trip to the Galleries of Justice (Year 13)
- Exam Success (Year 11)
Across the Key Stages students will experience both trips out of school and in school activities. These activities are led by our staff although frequently outside providers are used to enhance the learning experience of our students.
The ECO days are compulsory to all students and all of the 'in school' days are provided at no cost to parents or families.
