How to apply for a place at The Carlton Academy - Admissions Policy
Thank you for your interest in joining The Carlton Academy.
As an Academy, our governing body is the authority responsible for determining the policy and criteria for admissions to the academy. The Academy's admissions policy for the next academic year can be found within the policies section of the website. For details on how to apply for an in-year admission, please view the In Year Admissions Process document at the bottom of this page.
Please view the Transition and Feeder Schools page for all Year 6 transition information.
Please contact the academy directly for enquiries about admissions at:
E-mail: h.bull@theacademycarlton.org
A copy of our Admissions Policy is found in the policies section of our website.
The Carlton Academy has its own admissions authority. If you are looking to secure a place at our school for children in Year 6 and due to start in Year 7 the following September then you need to apply through the traditional Local Authority application process - you can find more information and do this online from here. Nottingham City Council residents apply directly to the City Council.

In Year Admission Process
If you are looking to apply for a place at our school for students currently in Year 7 or above at another school or during the school year, you are asked to contact the school directly and request an application form, which you are also able to download from here.
- The Parent/Carer submits an application form for their child (the application form is available on the Academy website in the admissions section). To assist us with your application could you please also provide:
- a letter explaining the reasons for the school transfer
- an up-to-date school report
- any other information to support your application
- proof of permanent residency
- The Academy receives the application form and replies to the applicant within 15 school days with the Academy’s decision.
- The Academy informs the Local Authority of the application and the Academy’s decision.
- Once the Parent/Carer has received the outcome of their application, they may wish to state in writing or via email to the Admissions Officer h.bull@theacademycarlton.org that they wish to be added to our waiting list.
- The waiting list is operated and overseen by the Academy. Each applicant’s position on the waiting list is determined by the schools published over-subscription criteria, found in the Academy’s Admissions Policy.
- The waiting list remains open until 31 December; to be added to the following year’s waiting list the Parent/Carer must make a new in-year application.
Appeal
- If the Academy declines to admit the applicant, the Parent/Carer has the right to appeal the decision by informing the Academy within 20 school days of receiving the Academy’s decision letter.
- The Academy then coordinates the appeal hearing, chaired by an independent panel and attended by the applicant and representative from the Academy. The independent panel’s decision is final and cannot be appealed.
How to Appeal a school place for an in year transfer
